Click the lock/info icon in your browser's address bar and make sure camera access is set to "Allow" for this site. In Chrome, go to Settings → Privacy → Site Settings → Camera and verify this site isn't blocked.
Applications like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Skype, and Discord can exclusively lock your camera. Close these applications completely (check the system tray) and try again. On Windows, check Settings → Privacy → Camera for app access.
If you have multiple cameras (built-in + external), make sure the right one is selected in the dropdown. On laptops with a privacy shutter, check that it's open. Some monitors have built-in webcams that may be selected by default.
Outdated drivers can cause camera issues. On Windows: Device Manager → Cameras → right-click your webcam → Update driver. For USB webcams, try unplugging and replugging, or use a different USB port.
On Windows: Settings → Privacy → Camera → Make sure "Allow apps to access your camera" is On, and your browser is in the allowed list. On macOS: System Preferences → Privacy → Camera → Check your browser.
Modern browsers require HTTPS for camera access. If you see "http://" in the address bar, the camera API won't work. Make sure you're accessing this site via "https://". The only exception is localhost for development.

Higher resolution doesn't always mean better image quality. Good lighting, a quality lens, and proper autofocus matter more than raw pixel count for video calls and streaming.
